Mobile Impact

The cellular industry has grown dramatically over the past 20 years and now supports over a billion devices worldwide. In developed markets, users have multiple devices on their accounts and mobile data volume continues to increase rapidly as mobile applications and streaming video services grow in availability and maturity. In addition to data traffic, dramatic increases in the number of wireless connections are being driven by the Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications. To meet this demand mobile operators are launching advanced LTE systems, densifying sites, and optimized bandwidth capabilities by employing small cells/DAS, implementing WiFi offloading and utilized advanced features like carrier aggregation (including new frequency bands), heterogeneous networks, and self-organizing networks. Additionally, the government continues to open new frequency bands to provide carriers with the bandwidth the market demands. All of this is supported by OEMs that continue to release more powerful smartphones and tablets, as well as, Internet connected sensors, telematics modules, and wearable consumer gear.

Networks will continue to evolve and operators will need to implement the latest solutions like Network Functional Virtualization and Software Defined Networks to become more efficient, flexible, and cost effective. Connectivity to specialized devices and services will drive operator growth into the Enterprise market, telematics, mobile payments, home automation, etc. MI Consultants has been, and remains at the forefront of engineering development in these markets. We specialize in providing system designs, driving business and technical requirements, managing projects and suppliers, and executing deployments/test engineering services for operators and core technology providers. Our project experience has touched all areas of the cellular ecosystem from systems design and integration, to device specifications and application development, and providing operations support such as project and supply chain management.

We have worked with carriers to develop service strategies, marketing programs, and evaluate vendor offerings. We have performed technical/subscriber migrations to new service platforms and specified core requirements for mobile services that have been offered to millions of users. Our network support includes developing requirements for access management and element resource utilization, providing network/device interoperability testing for mobile data devices, and developing comprehensive on-boarding processes designed to protect the network for IoT devices integrations. Our capabilities were recognized by a tier-1 mobile operator when they outsourced their interoperability testing to MI Consultants. We have also provided strategic consulting on mobile devices, developing user experience requirements and application management policies, as well as, developing device requirements and competitive positioning strategies. Our supply chain services have supported contract development with carrier partners that managed over a billion dollars in purchases across multiple geographic markets and we saved our clients hundreds of millions of dollars providing benchmarking analysis and direct OEM negotiations.
